Genre: Fantasy, urban fantasy, and science fiction
Let’s find out a little more about Wendee:

1. Why did you initially decide to write a book?
Nobody was writing what I wanted to read, so I decided I’d write it myself. Now I have a 10-book urban fantasy series set in Hobart, Tasmania, where nothing is exactly what it seems; a 6-book series of fantasy fairytale retellings full of murder, mayhem, and tea; and a sci-fi trilogy peopled by out-of-order characters and events.
2. What genres do you enjoy reading?
I enjoy reading almost any genre: scifi, fantasy, urban fantasy, mystery, thriller, paranormal, non fiction. It’s easier to ask what I don’t read, but since I’ve started to find audiobooks that work for me, there are even less things I don’t “read”.
3. What do you love most about being an author?
I love that I get to be paid for crafting narratives, themes, and characters. I love that I can make a living working at something I truly love.
4. What is currently on your TO BE READ pile?
Martha Wells’ Murderbot series, Tom Holland’s Dominion, Tasha Suri’s Empire of Sand, Vivian Shaw’s Strange Practice, and Anthony Trollope’s The Last Chronicle of Barset.
5. What drew you to the subject of your latest novel?
I wanted to discuss themes of repentance, forgiveness, restoration, and the interplay of each with the other. I also had a character I wanted to redeem. That makes for such a great amount of content that an entire series was required; I’m not on book 3 of that 5-book series.
6. Where is your novel set? (If you write fantasy, how would you best describe the world of your latest novel)?
My latest novel is urban fantasy, and is part of the Worlds Behind series, which is attached to the main City Between series; it is set in Seoul, South Korea.
7. What’s the most interesting book you’ve read in the last year – and why?
Barefoot Investor’s The Barefoot Investor. Sadly, it’s the first time that I (a business owner) have ever delved into the finance side of my business to do more than pay invoices and buy covers. This book, although written for the regular Aussie family, is very easily tailored to my specific circumstances as a full-time author, and I learned heaps from it!
8. What authors do you love to follow?
I don’t actually follow a lot of other authors—I follow my author friends, and some peripheral people who are friends of friends, but I do follow absolute favourites (who are still alive).
9. Do you prefer paperbacks, hardbacks or ebooks, as a reader – and why?
At the moment, I prefer audiobooks. I haven’t been able to read physical books for a little while now, and audiobooks have been fantastic! In general, however, I prefer paperbacks or hardbacks, and I still buy them from time to time when I feel like they’re something I’ll prioritise reading once I’m reading physical books again.
10. What else would you like your readers to know about you or your books?
I don’t seem to be able to write a book without either a dragon or a body showing up—sometimes both. So if you like fantasy, bodies, and dragons, you’ll find yourself well at home in my stories.
