Rick Allen – 10 Questions (2023)

1. Why did you initially decide to write a book?

My first book was Non-Fiction about my life as a Horseback Tour guide, after trying to write book 2, I came up with an idea for a 7-book Fiction series, I have 2 of these published and am getting the third edited. Whilst out of action I undertook an Advanced Certificate in Creative Writing and have started another two books. I now find fiction to be a lot more fun than non-fiction.

2. What genres do you enjoy reading?

A passionate Clive Cussler fan, so Adventure fiction.

3. What do you love most about being an author?

Freedom to express myself through writing

4. What is currently on your TO BE READ pile?

Count Down by James Patterson and Predator by Wilbur Smith

5. What drew you to the subject of your latest novel?

Still working on this one- The slow takeover of Australian businesses by the Chinese, but TOAST Book 2 ‘Hells Salvation’ is the second in the series of TOAST

6. Where is your novel set? (If you write fantasy, how would you best describe the world of your latest novel)?

Real life places here in Tasmania and Australia and surrounding countries.

7. What’s the most interesting book you’ve read in the last year – and why?

The Chosen Few, a bloody account of Chosen Company in the mountains of Afghanistan, well worth the read!

8. What authors do you love to follow?

Clive Cussler, James Patterson, Wilbur Smith, Jack Higgins.

9. Do you prefer paperbacks, hardbacks or ebooks, as a reader – and why?

Paper or Hard, I like the feel of the book in my hand

10. What else would you like your readers to know about you or your books?

The areas are all local to Australia, usually including Naval Patrol Boats and the Characters are all based on real life heroes.
